In the book All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque there unit visits Paul's old hometown. The various places in his home town has altered completely form when he was young. When he was young the places were full of people and colors and life. Now his home town is destroyed with bullets holes and destroyed building all over the places where he seen so many people. This would be hard on him and the readers because they thought of anyone's hometown garden, their rooms and houses being destroyed when you were so used to it full of great memories.
