Guided Questions: Chapter 4 through page 64 ("horses in the war"), focusing on comparisons. What does Remarque use metaphorical language to compare men to in this section? Why is Remarque making these comparisons? What is he trying to suggest?

In the book All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque they use plenty of comparisons to make it easier for the reader to understand the content of the book. Such as when he writes i shot as flat as a fish. This compares to when there are lying and ducking shooting out of the trench. All they do is lay as flat to the ground out of the trench to avoid bullets and still hide themselves behind the trench. This is what they had to do in the trenches to stay alive. He is suggesting that how hard it was to even stay alive in the trenches and shooting the enemy is.
