"Finish ch. 3. Focus on passages that suggest how theses soldiers gain power as a result of their military experiences. Is this power beneficial or detrimental?"

In the book All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque on page 35 the whole crew are waiting for reinforcement and when the reinforcement arrive Kropp says "seen the infants?" like the new recruits are lower class then them. Like there the big bad generals now cause they have experience. On the same page he says "I nod. We stick out our chest, shave in the open, shove our hands in our pockets, inspect the recruits and feel ourselves stone-age veterans." like now they are the old war veterans smiling at the new recruits just like the other war veterans did to them as they were new recruits walking into this whole new war zone. Its beneficial to them cause now they get the great feeling that there more experienced then the new recruits like there higher than someone on the ranking.
